My People
Today was one of those weird days where everything that I thought would take me an hour to do ended up taking twice as long. I pride myself on being efficient, so when I'm not, I get frustrated. I had a few deadlines to meet and I missed the boys' swim lesson to get my work done. Anytime I have to miss one of their activities, I feel a like I've failed. Not that I've failed them, they are great. They don't care if I miss one practice here and there. I feel like I've failed because the whole reason I started down the path of business ownership was so I wouldn't miss any of those moments.
But then two things happened:
I came home from the studio and all three kids ran to the door to greet me with the biggest hugs. Stella immediately downloaded me with all the swim lesson details (those of you who watched the travel vlog will be happy to know Zeke got in the water!), and then she paused,
She looked at me and said, "Mama, thanks for working so hard so we can do fun things like swim lessons. I know that's why you do it."
And then Brian came over, put his arm around me and said, "Just think, no matter how frustrated you are or stressed you may feel right now, at least you're not where you were three years ago. Three years ago, you were just days away from birthing your twin boys and I've never seen you more miserable."
I laughed, immediately felt some relief (because NOTHING is as hard as the last week of carrying twins!), and all five of us went outside on the back porch and ate popsicles.
It’s really great to have people, like YOUR people, you know?
