My Florabundance Full-Circle Moment
A few weeks ago, I got to speak at Florabundance Design Days in California and share the podium with some of the most respected designers in the industry.
Speaking at the conference marked a huge full-circle moment for me.
Four years ago, I signed up to attend the Florabundance Design Days conference. This was right after I decided to rebrand, changing my focus from event rentals under the name A Southern Tradition and instead focus solely on flowers, under my own name, Zimmerman Events. I had never been more excited about my business, and I could not wait to learn from the speakers who were going to be there.
About four weeks after I signed up to attend, I found out I was pregnant with twins. I was SO SICK. I could not get out of bed. I kept hoping I’d feel better. But a week before the conference, I had to email Joost, the director of the conference, to tell him I wouldn’t be able to make it. I was crying as I wrote the email. The conference felt like the culmination to a year of incredibly hard work and self-investment, and to not go was devastating.
In his email back to me-- which he still has-- he said “maybe you’ll come back another year!”
And he was right. Four years later, I finally made it to Fleurabundance Days. But, not as an attendee, but as a speaker.
Friends, SO MUCH can happen in four years. I had just created my floral design studio, and I viewed the Florabundance speakers as the cream of the crop. I remember thinking, “Oh my goodness, how amazing would it be if one day I could speak at something like that. Maybe in like, fifteen years. Maybe.”
Four years later, and that ‘maybe one day’ dream happened for me.
I truly believe that if you keep your eyes on your goals, you stay in your own lane, you focus on what’s yours to do and limit the distractions of what people around you are doing, there’s nothing you can’t accomplish. And it can happen sooner than you think.
And when you do accomplish what once seemed like a huge, lofty goal, make sure you pause to celebrate. Job well done.
