The Call that Changed Everything: Under the Cover

We’re continuing our brand new Zimmerman Podcast miniseries, Sleeping with a Stranger: Under the Cover. In the next few weeks leading up to the release of my memoir, Sleeping with a Stranger, we’ll be taking a look “under the cover” as I share insider information about the story and process behind my memoir, Sleeping with a Stranger, which releases April 7, 2020.

This week Rachel interviewed me about the phone call that changed everything! It was the moment my personal life and my work life intersected and everything made sense, from the moment my sister died, to the day I got that call. I’ve never had such an overwhelming feeling of peace and joy and assurance of being exactly where I’m supposed to be doing exactly what I’m supposed to be doing.

The Day I Found Out

As I shared in last week’s episode, I first had to live the final chapter of the book before I could get the nudge to share my story. When this moment finally came, I was in the middle of the launch for my signature course, The Business Behind the Blooms, which takes a ton of time and energy.

Since April of 2019, I had been working with a new PR agent. I paid this agent more than I paid myself, and I was starting to wonder how much longer I could keep her on the team. After the launch of BBB, I knew we needed to have an honest conversation about our business relationship going forward.

Before I could even start the conversation, she told me how impressed she was with the Zimmerman team and that every year, she and her team pick one client to focus on and help propel forward. She shared that she had an exciting speaking opportunity for me, but that it would be great if I had a book first. She and I had never talked about this before, she had no idea I had this story to tell and was just waiting for the green light.

Preparation meets opportunity

After this fate-filled conversation, we both agreed to make this book and speech happen. In order to have the book launched first, we would need to release it in the early part of 2020. If you know me, you know I had already planned out my year. This was October of 2019, and we were now looking at a book launch within 6 months. You’ll hear more about the practical details of how this was made possible in next week’s episode! This conversation left me overwhelmed with gratitude, clarity and awe. This is why you cannot kill your dreams with the “how”. I had no idea how to write a book or publish it, but this woman, who I knew in my gut was a part of my team for some reason, did. It’s what she does for a living.I knew after this phone call that it was time to write! I had a deadline and a team ready to make the book a reality. In this episode you’ll hear more about the big and small signs that continued to point me toward this project. There was an indescribable peace that this story, which was thirty-five years in the making, was finally going to be shared. I’m so grateful you’re here to learn about my memoir, but also the behind the scenes of it’s creation. I can’t wait for you to listen to this episode!
