Zimmerman Family Airstream: Hot Springs, Arkansas | Vlog Ep. 2
If you’ve been following along here for the past few months, then you know that we’ve started our full-time travel journey in our Airstream.
I’m so excited to share our first destination— Hot Springs, Arkansas!
I lived in Arkansas nearly my entire life, most of it in Conway, which is just 90 miles from Hot Springs.
Since we’re familiar with the area and it isn’t too far from home, Hot Springs was the perfect first location. We were doing everything for the first time, from hitching our Airstream to our truck to navigating some wide left turns with a 30 foot trailer, to stocking our kitchen.
It was nice to know that if anything went really wrong, we were close to familiar places and people who could help.
But I’m happy to report that everything went great, and our first destination really gave us the confidence we needed to hit the open road!
We parked our Airstream at the KOA Hot Springs National Park campground, and while there’s other things to do in Hot Springs, we really spent most of our time in the National Park.
Hot Springs National Park is so unique because it is surrounded by a downtown. So you can walk from shops and restaurants straight into outdoor exploration.
And the park is called Hot Springs for good reason. There are natural springs throughout the park, which you get to see in the video. We all loved filling our water bottles straight from nature’s tap.
We also used this opportunity to get all of the fun, kid-friendly national park things that we’ll use throughout our time on the road. From the national park annual pass, park passports that the kids can get stamped at each park, and pins to stick to pennants to mark our travels, plus scratch-off map to mark off where we’ve traveled.
While we were in the park, the kids got to do the junior ranger program, which was so fun! All three of them loved the park scavenger hunt, coloring activities, and talking to the (Covid-safe) park rangers!
I can’t imagine having a better experience for our first stop, and it made all of more excited for the adventures yet to come!
I’ve been documenting our journey so that I can keep these memories close for years to come, so if you’d like to take a look at our first stop in Hot Springs National Park, watch along with me here or click the video at the top of the blog!
