Adventure is Out There! The Zimmerman Family Goes West | Vlog Ep. 5
Once we finished up with The Home Edit team in Nashville, we needed to find some adventure!
So we headed West about as quickly as we could. If you’re wondering just how the west was won, we can tell you: with some screen time, McDonalds, and a healthy heap of flexibility.
Our first stop on our adventure out was was at Awesome Acres Alpaca Farm in Oklahoma City, OK, another Harvest Hosts location!
We got to play with the animals, meet the farmers, and rest up before heading farther West. Zeke has an inexplicable, newfound fear of dogs, so it was a big deal for him to face his fears and mix it up with the farm animals!
The next morning, we packed up the Airstream and stayed at another Harvest Hosts location: Reddy Vineyards in Brownfield, Texas. It takes a lot of time to cross the country, so multiple stops were necessary. So thankful we found Harvest Hosts!
Then, we headed to New Mexico where we had a quick drive-through pit stop at the Roswell McDonalds, which is heavily influenced by the extra terrestrial-obsessed town.
This led to my finest parenting moment of our full-time travel journey so far, where we all pigged out on McDonalds and enjoyed unrestricted screen time. It isn’t always glamorous, but sometimes you just do what you gotta do.
Finally, after crossing the country, we ended up in Carlsbad, New Mexico, only to discover that the entire state was shut down because of the pandemic. Our plan was to stay at the Carlsbad KOA for a week, but after going to a nearby Walmart and standing in line for over two hours just to get inside, I knew we had to be flexible and willing to change plans.
We ended up staying at the KOA for a few nights, which was like a ghost town except for another full-time travel family whose stay overlapped with ours. We immediately connected with them, and are planning on meeting up later on down the road.
Brian and I decided that we needed to scrap our initial plan to stay in New Mexico for an entire month, exploring all the beautiful things the state has to offer. So we leaned into the flexibility that RV living offers, and rerouted to chase adventures somewhere else. (See what I mean in this vlog).
