Plans Get Ruined and We Explore Provo, Utah!
While exploring Capitol Reef National Park, we hit an unexpected (and literal) bump in the road and ended up in Provo, Utah!
Considering how long we were on the road, it’s honestly shocking that we didn’t have more issues with our truck or Airstream. I mean, if we were living at home we’d surely have some problems with our house. Now imagine dragging that house behind a huge truck and driving it all across the country!
So really, we were overdue for some kind of incident. We were planning to boondock in Capitol Reef, but when we were pulling into the park, we hit a rock and broke the propane line that basically provides our entire Airstream with heat and the ability to cook food for our nights when we’re “off the grid.”
You can tell in the video that it’s pretty cold outside. There’s still snow on the ground! So boondocking without heat wasn’t really an option.
We ended up driving three hours to Provo where there was an Airstream shop. We got the propane line fixed and enjoyed a night or two in a hotel. Honestly, we all loved our unexpected stay in Provo, and it was just what all of us needed, including the Airstream, to get back on the road a few days later.
And that’s life, right? We can make all the best plans in the world, but at the end of the day, plans are just good intentions. If I’ve learned anything in the past ten years of unexpected twin pregnancies, business changes, economy crashes, chronic illnesses, and cross-country moves, it’s that sometimes plans change without your approval or permission, and the best thing you can do is allow yourself to feel the disappointment, come to terms with the new reality, make the best out of the remaining options, and then reflect when you have time, asking, “how is this happening for me, not to me?”
At the end of the day, our Airstream got fixed, we got to spend a few nights in hotel beds, and were still able to see all the beauty that Capitol Reef National Park had to offer. And in the grand scheme of things, that’s really not so bad!
