The Small-Space Solution for an Airstream Christmas Tree

It’s Christmastime in the Airstream!

And we’re still celebrating and keeping the Christmas spirit alive, even if it means getting creative about a Christmas tree!

We’ve been staying in RV parks, and there are some serious rigs out here. Some of these RVs look like tour buses! But not our Airstream.

One of the things I love about Airstreams is that they use every square inch of space. Unfortunately that means that while some people could fit full-sized Christmas trees in their spaces, we have zero room!

“Just get one of those baby trees, Jess! The ones that sit on a tabletop,” you might say.

But I’m not lying when I say that there just is no room.

The two flat surfaces where this could work are our kitchen counter (but then we couldn’t, like, eat meals,) or our dinette. Which is where we do everything!

It’s where I work, where the kids do school, and where we eat our meals. I wasn’t down for having a 2ft. centerpiece for the next month, something we’d constantly have to move on and off the table or counter.

Then I got to thinking…

We have a blank wall in our Airstream, thanks to a TV I tore out about as soon as we got our hands on it. We didn’t need three televisions in the vehicle we were using to adventure and explore the U.S. in! We wanted to be looking outside the windows, not at a screen.

I wondered if I could use this two-dimensional surface to create a tree that felt 3D!

I can’t lie, I’m pretty happy with the result!

Here are the products we used to pull everything together.

Wooden Dowel Rods

We only used two 1/2” x 36” dowel rods, but they usually come in packs of ten or more.

Artificial Christmas Garland

Although we bought 50’ of garland and ended up using a little over 30’. I’m sure you can find good use for the extra 20’, or you can make a larger tree than we did!

100 White Lights

I’m a fan of a classic look, but this would work with colored lights as well, of course!

Star Tree Topper

We purchased this two-count star ornament, and glued them together for a star topper with more dimension.

Mini ornaments

We used two boxes of these Christmas-colored miniature ornaments.

Ornament Hooks

These simple green ornament hooks helped the hooks blend in with the garland.

Scotch Indoor Mounting Tape

We used this Heavy Duty 1'' x 50'' mounting tape to mount the star ornament combo to the wall for our tree-topper.

Command Mini Clear Hooks

I created a grid out of these command hooks after outlining the frame of the tree so that we could weave the garland and attach it to the wall.
