A Perfect Family Trip to Gilbert, Arkansas, the Coldest City in the State!

Gilbert, Arkansas is known as one of the smallest and coldest municipalities in Arkansas.

You’d think with a population of less than 30, there wouldn’t be much to do, but that’s just not true!

We spent the weekend in and around Gilbert when the boys were three and Stella was five, and we had the best time!

Check out the video of our little getaway here.

Before we even got to Gilbert, we saw some sights. Because we drove from Conway to Gilbert, we stopped at The Natural Bridge, and Serenity Farm Bread, an incredible bread company that is now even shipping their bread!

In fact, I bet you could plan a fun virtual trip to Gilbert with some googled footage of The Natural Bridge and some Serenity Farm bread shipped right to your door.

On our way to Gilbert, we stopped and ate at The Skylark Cafe, which I would 100% visit again. So so good.

When we got to Gilbert, we stayed in this airbnb, which was a perfect size for us and a great cabin getaway. Before Brian and I had kids, we’d camp more regularly, but it’s not as easy with kids! The days are better when everyone gets good sleep!

It was a great home-base, and we used all the incredible amenities the airbnb had, like basketball, ping pong, movie-watching, and a fire pit where we roasted marshmallows and made s’mores.

When I’m traveling, I love to try the local food, so although the kitchen was well-equipped, we grabbed breakfast just down the road at Ferguson’s. We are pretty much a gluten-free family, but if you’ve never tried the cinnamon rolls at Ferguson’s, you should. They are huge!

And right across the street from Ferguson’s is MY FAVORITE PLACE in the world.

If you were to ask me my top five favorite places in all of Arkansas, this would make the list.

As a kid, I grew up going to a nearby lake with my family, and we always stopped here for smoked meats and cheeses.

Whenever I’m in the area, I spend a small fortune at Coursey’s Smoked Meats. The food is great and just walking in, the smell brings back good childhood memories of making sandwiches on the boat at the lake.

I never leave this place without grabbing:

1lb smoked turkey

1lb smoked ham

1lb smoked cheddar

1lb smoked swiss

summer sausage

bacon

And you don’t have to get just packaged meat. They also have a small sandwich counter where they will make you a sandwich. We always grab a sandwich, a small bag of chips, and a canned coke for the road. Simple and delicious.

Last time I checked, they ship bacon all over. It’s 100% worth it. If you don’t know what gift to give someone, gift them this bacon!

In the video, you can see the kids skipping rocks on the Buffalo National River riverbed. Before we had kids, this is the exact spot Brian and I would tent-camp. We had such wonderful memories from that time, that we knew we wanted to show it to the kids and let them play in our favorite little spot.

Not far from Gilbert is the Kenda Drive-in. We go here at least once a year. The kids love it. We love it. We indulge in all the movie foods and just sit outside and enjoy.

We stopped by the Kenda Drive-in before heading back to Conway at the end of our weekend adventure.

There’s nothing like an Arkansas Fall!

Gilbert might be the coldest city in Arkansas, but it sure has a warm place in our hearts!
