The Grand Canyon Hike Any Kid Can Do!
To wrap up our tour of Arizona, we visited the Grand Canyon!
I’m not sure it really counts as a cross-country road trip if you don’t see the Grand Canyon, right?
We got to the area in the afternoon and headed straight to… the IMAX to see the Grand Canyon movie!!
I knew I wanted to see the Grand Canyon for the first time at sunrise, so we had to be patient and wait for morning. Instead, we watched the Grand Canyon video at the IMAX and learned everything we needed to know about the landmark before visiting.
I know it may seem like we were just trying to pass the time, but I actually really recommend this experience! From me to Brian to the kids, we were all big fans!
Finally, the next morning we bundled up and saw the canyon up close and personal. You cannot beat the feeling of walking out to the rim in semi-darkness and watching the sun rise on the red canyon walls. Amazing!
Then we hiked the Bright Angel Trail, 1.5 miles down into the canyon to the mile and a half rest house, then returned for a total of three miles.
The hike is narrow and we had small kids with us, so we definitely took our time.
We had a packed picnic lunch at the halfway point. If you’re going to the Grand Canyon with young kids, this is a perfect hike for the whole family!

Watch the video above to catch all our special Grand Canyon moments, like Zeke’s bike crash, our sunrise hike, and a little impromptu rock and roll with great acoustics. Plus, if you want to see the other places we explored (including exact GPS coordinates), check out our Grand Canyon travel guide!
